July 2019

Delighted to be back at the Ealing Jazz Festival fro the 4th year in a row! So brilliant to see so many faces from previous years who came especially to see us!

Kate de Freitas originally trained as an actress but found herself working predominantly in musical theatre. She has sung before Sir Cameron MacKintosh, Sir John Mills, and Academy award winning director Sam Mendes.

Recently Kate has found herself drawn to the freedom and creativity found in the world of jazz and blues where she has shared a stage with fantastic musicians such as Jamie Cullum who calls her "A proper lady singer!"

She has written and performed her own songs with Yosi Marshall's sax band Momentum at the Bulls Head in Barnes and such was the success of their first gig there they have been invited back on 22nd November. They are currently working on their second album.

Kate has just returned from Edinburgh where she sang with Fat Sams band, a jive swing 9 piece band. She is influenced by Louis Prima, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Imelda May, Caro Emerald, Eva Cassidy, Elvis, Nouvelle Vague and Stevie Wonder.

Come and hear us.....

See where you can hear us next at our Upcoming Events page and in the meantime click on the songs below to give you more of an idea of who we are and what we do.

Kew Gardens Christmas Festival

We have been asked back again this year to open the Christmas Festival at Kew Gardens. We are situated near the Victoria Gate and will play on 30th November 4.30-8pm. Come laong it was beautiful last year with most of the Gardens lit up

in the night sky.

August

What a fantastic crowd turned out to both gigs at Ploughfest in Ealing, in aid of children's charity Shooting Star Foundation. The Babacools had their first gig together after their summer break headlining the festival on the Saturday night and originals band Momentum played songs from their second album on the Sunday evening.

Catch us at the Lord Nelson, Brentford Saturday 30th August 9-11pm and a new monthly lunchtime trio gig at the Plough, Northfields Ave starting this Sunday 31st 1.30-4.30pm. Come along read the papers and leisurely enjoy your Sunday roast with some mellow jazz and blues in the background.

Watch this space for our Christmas Festival gig at Kew Gardens should have a date for you soon.

March

Really enjoyed our gig at the Pheasantry in The KIngs Road last Monday 10th March. What a lovely atmosphere and wonderfully friendly people. I'm looking forward to going back. Watch this space.

It was great too to be joined by fellow Babacool Ursula Galle who played wonderfully!

I'm very starstruck about playing with Vassilis Zenopoulis at the launch party for the reopening of the Kings Head in Putney on 1st November.

A real mixture of soulful jazz swing, rhythm & blues and rockerbilly from Imelda may & Caro Emerald! I'm told it's a dress up do so put on your dancing shoes and fluff your petticoats....

for more information about and to find our about other gigs at this venue see our Events page.

Really enjoying singing my own songs with Momentum, Yosi Marshall's Jazz sax led band and listening to this very slick band with their rich mixture of musical influences from Africa India and all over!

We are currently recording our second album which is very exciting. We had a great gig at the well known soho jazz venue the Spice of Life and look forward to playing there again soon.

Catch us next at Charlie wrights international Jazz bar in Hoxton December 8th.

I'm very much looking forward to singing a bit of Billy Holliday and Nina Simone at the Swan In Hampton. Come down if you're in the area!

I had a fantastic time singing with the fabulous Fat Sam's band at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and in the beautiful Spiegeltent at the North Berwick on Sea Festival. We were looked after so well by the lovely people there and the audience looked like they were having a whale of a time! Fat Sam's band has played all over the world not surpisingly as they are such a charismatic band-hope I get to go to go to Las Vegas with them next time! Eddie Reader played the night after us hope she had as much fun.

Kate gives singing lessons in Jazz, pop/rock and musical theatre to adults and children.Contact her on 07787113785 or email [email protected] for more information.
